Project Lavender in Allegany County, NY and surrounding areas
Lavender Fall Meeting
THIS Saturday, October 18th
(postcard had the wrong date...not the 19th)
10am - 12 Noon
Centerpoint-Angelica Bible Church Gym, Angelica, NY
All are invited...Project Lavender will hold
its annual fall meeting Saturday, October 18, from 10AM-12Noon, at the Angelica/Centerpoint
School in Angelica.
Keynote speakers will be Gretchen Hanchett from Allegany
Business Center and Mary Jane Demster from “Tealightful Treasures”.
We will also have a display of Lavender Inspired businesses and products from
the last year, along with a presentation on “Lavender Festivals Around
The Country”.
Gretchen Hanchett will be talking about the many services and resources available
to anyone interested in starting a small business or growing an existing business
in Allegany County and the surrounding area. She will emphasis the need and
tools to successfully network in our unique rural environment, as well as
answer specific questions regarding ABC”s services. This will be a great
presentation for lavender inspired products and services, but also for anyone
who would like to include Project Lavender with their existing business.
Mary Jane Demster form "Tealightful Treasures", Tea Consultant,
will talk about the creative way she has incorporated lavender into her tea
business, as well as showcase the many other creative ventures that have grown
out of Project Lavender. This is a great opportunity to see how the spirit
of lavender has inspired many others, including artists, cooks, gardeners
and merchants from around the area.
Project Lavender Board member, Sharon Rader will give us a peek at how other
communities have grown and promoted their lavender festivals, and we will
close the meeting with a short discussion regarding the full introduction
and distribution of our signature lavender, “Dilly, Dilly”.
Everyone is invited. The meeting is free and open to the public. If you are
interested in growing with Project Lavender, we encourage you to attend. The
facility is fully handicapped accessible. For more information, please contact
Marika Burke at 585-466-3001 or email us at info@projectlavender.com. Hope
to see you soon!

7/07 From Erica Fleischman:
Some
comments about my lavender and some calls I've gotten from others:
My lavender transplants have gotten off to a very slow start.
I've heard the same from several others. I found some literature
that confirms this... small plants (plugs and those plants with little root
systems) are slow
to establish. The larger 4.5" size plants I put in at the same time are
doing
much better. I hope people don't get discouraged. Watering has been
crucial during the extreme dryness we've had. Supplemental watering is essential
for establishment. It's only when the plants are in their 2nd and 3rd years
that they become
more drought tolerant.
